The 4-Step Technical Interview Framework
- 1. Clarify Requirements & Constraints: Always ask about data volume, throughput expectations, memory limits, and edge cases before writing a single line of code.
- 2. Propose the Brute-Force Solution First: State the naive approach and analyze its Time and Space complexity (Big-O). This establishes a baseline.
- 3. Optimize Using Efficient Data Structures: Identify bottlenecks. Can you use Hash Maps for O(1) lookup, Two Pointers, or Sliding Window?
- 4. Write Clean, Modular Code: Use meaningful variable names, handle empty/null inputs gracefully, and trace your solution with an example input.
